The Interview Position

We want you to know a seriously important point and not be confused. Here it is:

Ip Man Wing Chun is a toolbox. The toolbox exists for us to use in the event of unavoidable aggression. In other words, self-defense. There's no such thing as "self-defense" in action anymore than there is "furniture." I don't sit on furniture, to be exact...I sit on a chair, a sofa, or a bed. Furniture is a classification just as self-defense is. Likewise, i don't eat "food" - I eat a taco or a cookie. (If you're vegan, you don't eat food either...just a joke...).

With self-defense we're using a system and in our case that system is Wing Chun. Hope that's clear because it's a critical distinction easily missed that has important ramifcations downstream. And Wing Chun is, as we said, a toolbox full of concepts and mechanical structures designed to help us get the job done. The job? Protect ourselves.

How we use those tools is what makes a good mechanic or contractor out of us. In today's video Sifu Tony, the best looking Wing Chun man in captivity (alright...that may or may not be a joke too), walks you through the Interview Posture/Position that we use to navigate the tempestuous waters of prefight situations. If you've wondered how to use Wing Chun in a real fight (and I assume you have because you're here) then this is an important bridge between classroom and street. Our Wing Chun toolbox is from the direct Ip Man lineage, right? Absolutely. How we apply those tools takes wisdom. That's why you see so much variance in the Wing Chun world. Two people may have the same toolbox but it's their education, experience and wisdom that determines their application skill. In Sifu Tony's case, his mastery of the system, his career in law enforcement, and the fact that he's so good looking he has to fight off women and their jealous boyfriends on a nearly daily basis, provide the wisdom of his application skill.

It's a short video but pay attention. The concepts and structures he describes are exaclty where the rubber hits the road. Or where the hammer meets the nail. Or where the stuff hits the fan. Or where...okay...I'll stop. Too much coffee this morning.

To see the video just head over to the video section. Trust me, you'll love it.
